“For The Queen”

Framed original watercolor. 14x11 inches in a 16x20 inch frame. 

This piece is to honor Queen Liliuokalani and the time she spent on house arrest. She was not allowed to know what was happening outside of her room in her palace. She was given flower bouquets wrapped in newspapers in secret so that she could read the newspapers. 

Her favorite flowers were known the be the Puakalauna or crow flowers, so I painted those in this bouquet wrapped in newspaper. 

While painting this I decided to paint out words to several of her songs that she composed.

”aloha oe”, and “Kuʻu Pua I Paoakalani”.
